There is gloom and despair among so many people as we enter into the New Year? Of course, we can understand this when we look at the state of the world in which we live. Violence in the Middle East, terrible problems in Zimbabwe, an economic crisis in the western world et al. Some of us are putting our hopes in a newly elected President who will replace a very unpopular one. Others will bury their heads in the sand and hope the problems will just go away. Yet others will not pay any attention to the difficulties of others, but will eat, drink and be merry in their usual selfish manner. All of these approaches are wrong. The next President will not solve many problems even if he were a superman. If you bury your head then the financial crisis might just creep up behind you and bite you where it really hurts. And if you just party your life away you will eventually be held accountable for such shallowness. However, there are those of us who know the TRUTH. His name is Jesus Christ and He gives hope where there is no hope. He warned us of the coming calamities.. we need to be ready to help those who are hurt in the fall out. And we need to do so in that Name which is above all names. His Name is higher than that of economic doom. It is higher than disease, and war, and all forms of human failure. Let's do our utmost to introduce the One who owns that Name to some of the people who so desperately need Him. The Word of God, the Bible, is our manual for life. It is always advisable to read the manual. If you do then you will know what to do when things don't seem to be going the way you feel that they should. The answer to every problem, and also to every possibility is found in the Word of God. The scriptures are called the Word of life: "Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain." (Philippians 2:16) Paul tells us that it is through preaching that people hear about God and make their decision about Him. He even tells us that in the natural preaching is foolishness. "For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe." (1 Corinthians 1:26) However, in the spiritual sense, preaching is a very high calling. The world may think of it as foolishness, but it is one of very few methods used where people can hear about the things of God and respond. For this reason it is imperative that a preacher remembers what his solemn duty is: He must uplift Christ. Paul said that he was very careful to preach only Christ and His death at the cross. C.H.Spurgeon reminded his students: "Preach nothing up but Christ: preach nothing down but the devil." When people surrender to the claims of the Word of God there is real joy in heaven. Why? Because the salvation of a human being is God's highest priority. He wants to enter into covenant with people, and He can only do so when a person is born again into His family. The new life in a believer proves that Jesus did not come in vain. FAITH We believe God. We believe what He says.......... RIGHTEOUSNESS We are declared righteous by the Father. And then He gives us the power of the Holy Spirit to do righteous deeds........... HOLINESS We have become like the Lord having been fathered by Him at new birth........... SACRIFICE We live out our lives a living sacrifices; we die to our selfish and carnal desires........... We are not special because we try to "outdo" others. We are special because we "look" to the things of others. We are motivated by the Lord God the Holy Spirit and through His Word.
